Qualifications/requirements for Direct Support Personnel (DSP)
Our services are mostly provided by our direct support personnel (DSP), who shall:

1. Be at least 18 years old.
2. Have at least a GED or high school diploma
3. Be current in first aid and CPR certification.
4. Possess current, appropriate certifications as required by regulations based on service provided and needs of the person at the time of service.
5. Meet minimum training requirements, which include training in the following areas:
   1. Conducting a housing assessment
   2. Person-Center Planning
   3. Pass a criminal background investigation and any other required background checks and verifications.
   4. Complete necessary pre/in-service training based on the Person-Centered Plan.
   5. Complete any additional training designated by DDS/DDA.
6. Have a GED or high school diploma.
7. Must be certified by the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Medication Technicians
8. Must possess a valid driver’s license if the worker must operate a vehicle in providing services.
   1. The vehicle must have automobile insurance for vehicles owned and rented for use in the performance of work.
9. Must have three years of experience providing direct support (e.g., training on money management, time management, and community resources) to individuals with developmental disabilities or a similar population.
10. 10.Have three (3) professional references that attest to the provider’s ability to deliver the service/support.

Application procedures:
Before any person shall be considered for employment, the applicant must submit the following information:

1. A license or certification.
2. Transcripts (professional applicants)
3. Appropriate certificates.
4. Two (2) job references (minimum)

All qualified applicants shall participate in the following activities as appropriate:

1. Tests: Direct support Professionals (DSP) will complete a maths and literacy test.
2. Observations: Applicants for instructional staff may be requested to demonstrate their skills, i.e., participation in residential facility activities – in-house interviews, hire but not deployed – shadowing training.
3. Interviews: all such applicants shall be interviewed by the HR manager based on the general qualifications.
